Higher Heights to Host a Series of Exclusive Events Celebrating Black Women’s Leadership During the Democratic National Convention 

CHICAGO (Aug. 16, 2024)—Higher Heights, the political home for Black women, is excited to announce a series of exclusive events during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, IL. These events will highlight the powerful legacy and future of Black women’s political leadership during an historic week. 

These events underscore Higher Heights’ commitment to celebrating and advancing Black women’s leadership at a pivotal moment in American politics. From honoring trailblazers like Shirley Chisholm to witnessing Kamala Harris’s historic achievement, Higher Heights aims to inspire, educate, and empower Black women to lead and shape the future of American democracy.

 The #ChisholmEffect: Midnight Brunch 

• Date & Time: Wednesday, August 21, 2024, 10:00 PM – 1:00 AM CT 

• Location: 167 GREEN, 167 N Green St, Chicago, IL 60607 

• Description: A rooftop gathering to honor the strides in Black women’s political leadership over the past 52 years, celebrating Shirley Chisholm’s legacy and the ongoing efforts to elevate Black women across various sectors. 

The #BlackWomenLead House 

• Date & Time: Thursday, August 22, 2024, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM CT 

• Location: Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60607 

• Description: A full-day immersive experience uniting 2,000 Black women and their allies. The event will feature discussions with thought leaders, voter engagement initiatives, live podcast recordings, and a vibrant day party aimed at empowering the community and amplifying Black women’s voices. 

 She’s Got Next: Madam President Watch Party 

• Date & Time: Thursday, August 22, 2024, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM CT 

• Location: Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60607 

• Description: An upscale watch party celebrating Kamala Harris’s historic nomination as the first Black woman to accept a major party’s nomination for president. The event will include pre-commentaries from leading Black women and will be livestreamed live streamed for a national audience. 

In addition, Higher Heights will be livestreaming convention coverage all week-long beginning Sunday. 

 Higher Heights envisions Black women as being fully represented and holding significant political power at all levels of government to achieve full access, equity, and justice for all Black people. We strive to create a democracy that reflects the diversity and strength of our communities. We will create a future where Black women are at the forefront of American democracy, as it is essential to creating a better future for all.
