Carmen Berkley

Carmen Berkley is the Chief Strategy Officer for Dancing Hearts Consulting, where she is on a mission to make systemic change through social impact, politics, and culture.  Her experience in political strategy, communications, organizational development, and facilitation has led her to serve in leadership as the Managing Director of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Civil, Human and Women’s Rights Director at the AFL-CIO, Regional Field Director at NAACP, Field Director at Choice USA (URGE), and President of the United States Students Association. Prior opportunities have provided her with the experience to manage scaled social impact programs and lead thousands of people towards real electoral and policy victories. Named Essence Magazines Woke 100, Carmen has been recognized for her work by many of her peers in the movement for her activism and innovation. A communicator by trade, Carmen is a radio host, producer, and disc jockey under the moniker DJ CarmenSpindiego, and she hosts the longstanding weekly show Sophie’s Parlor on WPFW in Washington, DC. She is a co-founder of BYP100, and serves on the Board of Directors for Advocates for Youth, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and as the Board Chair of re:Power. Carmen lives in Maryland with her talented husband LeeSingsRnB, and goes to concerts as often as she can.
