Letitia “Tish” James is the 67th Attorney General for the State of New York. She is the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York and the first woman to be elected Attorney General. She is an experienced attorney and public servant with a long record of accomplishments. James was elected to the office on November 6, 2018. James advanced from the Democratic primary with 40.3 percent of the vote. She went on to win the general election on November 6, 2018, with 61.9 percent of the vote.
During her 2018 Campaign Tish James committed to: protecting immigrants’ rights, to bring legal action to keep ICE out of our courts; investigating the legitimacy of the NRA as a charitable institution; reforming the criminal justice system; enforcing access to reproductive healthcare, protecting a woman’s right to choose; fighting for statewide legislation which bans employers from asking workers about their salary history; stop environmental injustices that exacerbate racial disparities and many other initiatives that advocate for and safeguard of New Yorker’s rights. She has followed through. James’ office has filed suit against or launched investigations into some of the most dominant special interests in the country, from the opioid manufacturer Purdue Pharma and its owners to the National Rifle Association and Facebook.
Her office has also joined or spearheaded some of the dozens of lawsuits against the Trump administration’s most controversial plans.
