In 1897, Florence’s father, a bookbinder, brought her from Jamaica as a baby and styled her hair to blend in with other girls. However, after Florence causes a scandal that leads her father to cast her out onto the streets of Manchester, she must rely on the bookbinding skills he taught her. Florence makes her way into the prestigious Rose Hall to handle its rare books. When the library is burglarized and Florence finds a partially burned diary in the fireplace, she embarks on a quest to unravel its mysteries.
