Higher Heights for America enthusiastically endorses Bonnie Watson Coleman for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. Coleman will be a welcomed addition in Washington, D.C. where she will continue her work to ensure that every citizen has an opportunity to obtain the American Dream.
“If elected in November, Bonnie Watson Coleman would be the first women to represent New Jersey in Congress since 2003.She will provide a much-needed voice for the women and families of her home state in Washington,” said Kimberly Peeler Allen, Co-founder of Higher Heights.
Bonnie Watson Coleman is one of New Jersey’s most respected and influential legislators, having been elected to the legislature for eight consecutive terms. Throughout her career, she has been a dedicated and outspoken advocate for women, the poor, the disadvantaged, and the vulnerable.
She shattered racial and gender barriers to become the first Black woman to serve as Majority Leader of the New Jersey General Assembly, and the first Black woman to serve as Chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.
Coleman has fought to increase the minimum wage, to pass the Paid Family Leave Act and has sponsored legislation to provide victims of identity theft with a legal mechanism to clear their names. She also continues to fight for the restoration of critical women’s health care funding and advocates for gun safety laws to keep our streets and children safe.
