BROOKLYN (March 14, 2024) –In a historic first, today Vice President Kamala Harris plans to tour a Minnesota clinic that performs abortions and provides other reproductive care.

According to Harris ‘ office, it will be the first time a president or vice president has been to a reproductive health clinic.

In response to the historic visit, Higher Heights President and CEO Glynda C. Carr made the following statement:

Reproductive rights continue to be a mobilizing issue for Black women voters, and we applaud Vice President Harris and the administration for standing up for all women and ensuring that this issue is front and center.

Last week, our sister organization, Higher Heights Leadership Fund, released new polling that shows abortion continues to be a galvanizing and mobilizing issue among Black women voters. Nearly 80% of respondents expressed concern over abortion access becoming more restricted. This finding holds across age, education, and political party.

In this consequential election year, our rights are on the line, federally and in our state houses, as these fervent attempts to control our access to reproductive choices persist.

Vice President Harris’s visit to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and her tour around the country sheds a critical light on the rollback of our rights and continues to elevate this issue during this consequential election year.”
