Annette Christie is also working with Higher Heights’ membership and program department this summer. Annette is a Dallas, TX native and currently lives in the Washington DC area. She has a passion for policy and advocacy and has sharpened her expertise by completing several internships and fellowships. Most recently,  Annette was a Public Policy Fellow at the PIE Network, an organization dedicated to achieving equity for all students. She has served as a Leadership for Educational Equity, Policy and Advocacy fellow. In this role, she served Clayton County School Board Member Jasmine Bowles. She also was a summer fellow for Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Brown. Additionally, she was an intern for Congressman Marc Veasey of Fort Worth, Texas.

Annette was a 2018 Metro Atlanta Teach for America Corps member and taught sixth-grade special education. This role opened her eyes to all of the inequity within the education system, driving her desire for policy change.

Annette graduated from Baylor University, Waco, with her Bachelor’s in Communication with Concentration in Rhetoric and Public Discourse. She is currently a masters in Public Policy Candidate at American University.

Annette hopes to use all her experiences to invoke systemic policy change. She hopes to accomplish this by assessing the root cause of pressing public policy issues. She is proud to join Higher Heights as a Fellow and is confident that electing more Black Women to public office will help invoke the change she desires.
