US Virgin Islands
Higher Heights for America proudly endorses Donna Christensen for Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands. A victory by Christensen will place her on the course to become the first Black woman governor in the United States or U.S. Territories.
“We are excited by the opportunity for Donna to bring unbought and unbossed leadership to the office of Governor of the Virgin Islands. By changing the make-up of a decision making table, we take one more step in the right direction for a truly representative democracy,” said Kimberly Peeler-Allen, Co-Founder of Higher Heights.
This win will not be the first of firsts for Christensen who has shattered glass ceilings throughout her career as the first woman Delegate to Congress from the U.S. Virgin Islands, the first woman to represent an offshore territory, and the first woman physician to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A former emergency room physician, she has used her personal experience to continuously advocate for women and families during her nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Delegate representing the U.S. Virgin Islands.
She continuously has raised her voice on a myriad of progressive issues through her service on the Small Business, Homeland Security and Energy and Commerce Committees as well as her work as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Progressive Caucus and the bi-partisan Caucus on Women’s Issues.
